Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Pinwheels Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 4 oz (115g) sliced ham
- 1 cup (100g) shredded cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or your favorite)
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle.
- Spread Mustard (Optional): Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard over the puff pastry for extra flavor.
- Add Ham and Cheese: Layer the sliced ham evenly over the pastry, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the ham.
- Roll and Chill: Starting from the longer side, tightly roll the pastry into a log. Wrap it in plastic wrap and chill in the freezer for 10-15 minutes to firm up.
- Slice into Pinwheels: Remove from the freezer and slice the log into 1/2-inch (1.25 cm) thick pinwheels.
- Prepare for Baking: Place the pinwheels on the prepared baking sheet, spaced slightly apart. Brush the tops with the beaten egg. Sprinkle with dried Italian seasoning if desired.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Serve: Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm or at room temperature!
